Fat treatment and its possible side effects

Lipid treatments are one of the most common and widely used treatments among people, especially heart and arterial patients. These treatments are diverse and have different side effects that may appear on patients, but sometimes patients do not pay attention to these effects. Here we will talk about the most common side effects.

The occurrence of side effects depends largely on the type of lipotherapy used. For example, older treatments such as Simvastatin have more pronounced side effects compared to newer treatments such as Atorvastatin and Rosuvastatin. In addition, simvastatin may interact with other medications, increasing the possibility of side effects. So the choice of treatment type plays a big role in the occurrence of side effects.

One of the most prominent side effects of these treatments is muscle pain, especially in the legs, thighs, and sometimes in the arm muscles. When a laboratory test for muscle enzyme (CPK) is performed, the level of this enzyme appears to be high, and its elevation should not be confused with an increase in heart enzymes. The ability to tolerate this pain varies between people. Some people can live with it while others find it unbearable. If the muscle enzyme increases tenfold, treatment should be discontinued immediately, even if there is no severe muscle pain.

Other rare side effects that may occur are an increase in liver enzymes and an increased possibility of diabetes. These effects are monitored once about two months after the start of treatment or when symptoms such as yellowing of the eyes appear. Treatment is stopped only if liver enzyme levels rise to three times normal levels.
